We would like to know what you think.

You are providing comments on a website for the National Mall Plan.  Comments provided in this manner can be analyzed efficiently and cost effectively. NPS appreciates your participation and continued interest in the National Mall Plan.

This plan will provide overall vision and guidance for the long-term management of the National Mall. The plan will guide rehabilitation of the National Mall’s historic landscape to restore its health and beauty; identify measures to help it function better as our country’s primary civic space; address the needs of visitors for access, enjoyment, education, recreation, facilities and services; and improve park operations.

The planning team has developed a set of five management alternatives that describe different visions for how the National Mall could be managed. This includes a No-Action and the agency Preferred Alternative. The Preferred Alternative combines ideas from each of the other alternatives to best achieve the plan goals. The No-Action Alternative would continue current management and ongoing actions; Alternative A would emphasize the historic landscape and education; Alternative B would emphasize a welcoming national civic space to accommodate large numbers of people in our country’s civic space; and Alternative C would emphasize urban recreation and a sustainable ecology.

This is your first opportunity to review the entire National Mall Plan. A companion photo book is provided to remind you about National Mall areas, uses and existing conditions. Because of expected public interest, the comment period will be open for 90 days. The National Park Service encourages you to comment online so it will be easier to read and analyze your comments. We appreciate you for reviewing our National Mall Plan Draft Environmental Impact Statement. We look forward to reading your comments.
